October Meeting: Christina Rost | “Character Code: Traits, Triggers & Truths”

Characters are defined by what they seek and what they struggle against; identity, love, hate, and ambition are some of the elements that reveal their true selves. In this class we use the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). It categorizes personality into four fundamental dichotomies which can be described as 16 distinct types. An understanding of MBTI allows an author to create characters with layers of psychological depth which fuels their motivations, relationships, and conflicts within the plot. The result is character arcs that feel organic, consistent, and deeply human.
By the end of this 50-minute class, you will walk away with: a practical understanding of the four MBTI dichotomies and how they drive core personality traits for your characters, ready-to-use examples that show how the same core desire can look completely different across personality types, and a short character-creation worksheet you can continue to use long after the class ends.
Whether you write novels, scripts, short stories, or any form of fiction, you’ll leave with applicable methods that make your characters feel alive and true to themselves—without spending hours over-analyzing them.
Christina Rost is an award-winning author, mother to three amazing children, and is married to her high school sweetheart. While she currently lives in Oklahoma City, she has lived all over the US (including a few years in the UK), and she loves to travel. When Christina isn’t spending time with her family or writing, you’ll find her chatting over coffee or perusing antique stores for tattered books. Find out more on her website!
