November Meeting: Jon Hopkins | Writing Short Narrative Nonfiction for Anthologies and Magazines

November 12 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Come join us for our November meeting as our own Jon Hopkins speaks to us on Writing Short Narrative Nonfiction for Anthologies and Magazines. Jon says, “Not every writer has the desire and patience to write a novel. Perhaps writing short stories might be for you. Short narrative non-fiction stories are in demand by magazines, newspapers, blogs, and anthologies, and many of these publications pay authors for this.”

So how do we go about writing a short story that a publication or website will accept? Since Jon has published over twenty-five stories for magazines and five in anthologies, including Gary Chapman’s book Love is a Verb, his presentation is sure to show us how to write a successful short story. Join us for this program packed with important tips!

Jon Hopkins is an author and writer and has published over thirty-five narrative non-fiction stories, publishing regularly with Standard magazine. His work has also appeared in other magazines, newspapers, and various book projects. In addition, Jon has over fifty years of proficiency providing care to teens and families in distress. A Licensed pastor, he has served as a Psychiatric Youth Care Coordinator, a Hospital Chaplain, a Church Youth Pastor, a Secondary School Teacher, and substitute teacher. Jon is married, has two grown children, three bonus grown children, and eight grandchildren. He collects books from the 19th century on character building, has an interest in Ancient Roman studies, plays the mandolin, tenor banjo, and guitar, writes poetry, and studies Latin for fun. We are lucky to have Jon as a member of our FCW group. He is sure to present a fantastic and helpful program. You won’t want to miss it!
