SUMMARY:August Meeting: Rene Gutteridge | Creating a Character that Drives a Story Forward
DESCRIPTION:Come join us at our August meeting when multi-award winning author Rene\nGutteridge\, with over two decades of writing experience\, will engage us with a wonderful\nteaching session on Creating a Character that Drives a Story Forward. Rene says\, “Many writers\ndevelop their plot and characters separately\, but creating a character that drives the plot weaves a\ntighter story as well as presents more choices from which a writer can choose…a bigger\nplayground\, so to speak. Learn how to create characters which demand the plot follow them\,\nrather than the character following around the plot. This\, in turn\, creates the page turner all\nwriters strive for!” Tips for weaving a page turning\, tight story will benefit us all as we shift our\nfocus to the characters. \nRene Gutteridge has been writing professionally for over twenty years\, with expertise in fiction\,\nnon-fiction\, comedy sketches\, novelizations and screenwriting. She is the multi-genre author of\n24 novels plus several non-fiction titles. Her indie film SKID won deadCenter’s Best Oklahoma\nFeature\, and her novel My Life as a Doormat was adapted into the Hallmark movie Love’s\nComplicated. She is co-writer on the feature film Family Camp\, a Movieguide award winner and \na Dove Award nominee for 2023. She is also a Screencraft finalist in true crime. Rene is co-\ndirector of WriterCon in Oklahoma City\, senior contributor at Writing Momentum and is the \nhead writer at Skit Guys Studios. Find out more at ReneGutteridge.com. \n  \n\nLocation:   Kirk of the Hills | 4102 E 61st St\, Tulsa\, OK 74136 \n\n
