SUMMARY:October Meeting: Phyllis Bell\, Elizabeth Staab Van Deusen\, and Sally Gano Jones | Workshop: Why Write Poetry Even if No One Will Read It
DESCRIPTION:Come join us at our October meeting as FCW members Phyllis Bell\, Elizabeth Staab Van Deusen\, and Sally Gano Jones lead us in a sure-to-be-helpful and intriguing workshop showing us why we should all be writing poetry even if no one else reads it. The workshop leaders will be highlighting the benefits of writing poetry\, the pros and cons of writing poems\, and why and when poems are appropriate. They will also engage the audience to participate in giving their opinions or experience in any of these areas. \nIn addition to the workshop\, FCW members will have the opportunity to enter a holiday-themed poetry contest in the weeks prior to the meeting. This will be an FCW Fundraiser with an entry fee as well as donated prizes to be awarded to the winners (1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place) the night of the workshop. The entry fee is $5 per poem with a limit of two submissions per member. More info on the poetry contest will be posted in our FCW Facebook group. Plan now to enter the contest and also attend the workshop. It will be a night none of us want to miss! \nWe are so grateful for these talented and experienced writers leading the workshop. Phyllis Bell is a graduate of Northeastern State University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oklahoma. She has written and published devotions as poems and also wrote for newsletters in area nursing homes when she and her husband Alan were Chaplains. During her years as a Military Family Life Counselor\, she wrote 30-page reports over the time assigned to a Military Base or Post. \nSally Gano Jones is a Christian wife\, mother\, and grandmother\, as well as a retired schoolteacher\, currently living near Tulsa\, Oklahoma. She began writing at age eleven and later published her first piece\, her testimony\, (Decision magazine\, 1976) while she was studying English at the University of Florida. She has published her work in Lifeway’s “Mature Living\,” Mississippi Public Radio/NPR\, anthologies\, and newspapers. \nElizabeth Staab Van Deusen is a stay-at-home mom of two energetic young boys. She studied writing at Oral Roberts University\, graduating in 2009\, and has self-published three books for young children and one nonfiction book for adults. \n\nLocation:   Kirk of the Hills | 4102 E 61st St\, Tulsa\, OK 74136 \n\n
