SUMMARY:November Meeting: Meagan Briggs | Writing for the Other Side of the Desk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our November meeting as Meagan Briggs\, a former lead editor\, and current communications manager and writer\, speaks to us about Writing for the Other Side of the Desk. Meagan says\, “When you pitch your work to an agent or editor\, you represent one side of the desk—the writer’s side. You know the hope and hesitation of submitting your work. But have you considered the same experience from the other side of the desk? What does your manuscript (or any form of writing) look like in the eyes of the editor or agent? Do they see what you see\, and if not\, why not? What if considering the audience begins with picturing the person on the other side of the desk? \nWe’ll discuss what an editor looks for not only in your writing but also in you as the writer. We’ll also look at the pros of rejection and the duty of acceptance\, and how the relationship with the person across the desk is one of the most important on this side of publication.” \nA lifelong word-wrangler\, Meagan Briggs trained under bestselling authors like Jerry B. Jenkins and DiAnn Mills\, studying both fiction and non-fiction. She has been the lead editor of the former flash fiction magazine Splickety Prime\, an ACFW contest judge\, and a semi-finalist in the 2013 First Impressions contest. Today\, she is a communications manager for a non-profit by day and a writer by night. In the quiet hours\, she balances writing articles\, devotionals\, and blog posts with writing historical fiction that challenges and inspires readers to live life purposefully \n\nLocation:   Kirk of the Hills | 4102 E 61st St\, Tulsa\, OK 74136 \n\n  \n
